Social Justice

Considering the increased awareness of systemic racism, injustices and physical violence routinely visited upon black & brown communities in America, it is more important than ever to share and affirm our practice’s commitment to equality and justice at West TN Eye.

As Minneapolis Police Chief, Medaria Arradondo said, “silence is an action – you’re complicit.” Our practice will not be silent. We speaks out against all forms of discrimination and violence.

West TN Eye’s (WTE) commitment to our community is strong. Our practice started in Frayser more than 40 years ago. While we have expanded our services in Millington and Baptist Memorial Hospital in Covington, we remain true to our roots with our location in Frayser.

We have long held an employment policy that focuses on recruiting a dedicated and caring team to provide for our patients. The Practice complies with all state and federal regulations. WTE does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, gender, religion, national origin, social origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, political opinions, veteran or military status, marital status, pregnancy, disability, or any other characteristics protected by law in hiring, firing, or any other terms and conditions of employment.

Equality is important in our world and in our practice. This policy of inclusion is true for how we welcome all patients to our practice

In the words of Martin Luther King, “every society has its protectors of status quo and its fraternities of the indifferent who are notorious for sleeping through revolutions. Today, our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change.”

Kings’ words are as true in our world today as they were the day he spoke them. Our practice seeks to be part of positive change in our community. In honor of the Juneteenth Holiday 2020, our practice made a financial contribution to the Frayser Development Corporation (FDC) and is exploring programming opportunities for collaboration. FDC is dedicated to bringing positive change to our Frayser community.

Moving forward, our practice has an employee-led action team to focus on our organization’s opportunity to help us “remain vigilant and face the challenge of change.” This team has the mission to ensure that all people who come through our doors for care or employment experience our commitment to diversity, inclusion, justice and human dignity.

We ask that you join us in facing the opportunities of change.
